The railway line known as “Maya Train”, is the largest infrastructure project of the current government, which will travel 1525 kilometers. Its construction began on December 16, 2018 in Palenque, Chiapas.
The cost of the Maya Train will be 150 billion pesos, 10% will be public financing and 90% private. It will also benefit more than 3 million people a year, is the largest project in Latin America and pollutes 100 times less than traveling on the highway and already has 95% of the rights.
The Train will take advantage of the tourist potential to generate an economic flow in the states of Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Chiapas, Tabasco and Campeche. With this the intention is to extend the visit to the region. Which also implies considerable growth in the infrastructure of services for the habitants of the region.

The creation of the Maya Train also seeks to promote social inclusion to gender groups, promote economic growth through the promotion of productive projects, protect the ecosystems and environmental services that these regions provide, avoid overuse and create social mechanisms to encourage community conservation, but above all, promote respect for native people.
The speed of the Maya Train will be 160 km per hour. The trip is divided into three sections

- Caribbean section that is equivalent to 446 km
- Gulf section that is equivalent to 653 km
